Happiness is up to you, struggles make you stronger

"Happiness does not depend on what happens outside of you, but on what happens inside of you. It is measured by the spirit with which you meet the problems of life." - Harold B. Lee

This is a much better way of saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Today is your day. This life is meant to be hard. It is through our struggles and hardships that we learn and grow. Think of a time you went through something difficult. Now think of the lessons you learned from you. Sure you wouldn't want to go through it again, but would you like to give up the important gems you learned? Next time you're stuck in a touch spot, look for the lessons that you can learn from it. This will help you get a positive outlook on the situation and it will completely change the whole situation. The details might not change, but your attitude will, and that's the biggest aspect.

This life is yours and no one else's. You are the one who decides whether you will be happy or sad. Don't sit around waiting for others to do that for you. Here are some ideas of what you can do:

  • Treat everyday like a special occasion

  • Specifically look for one thing you can do for someone everyday

  • Turn off the iPod and TV for some quiet meditation time

  • Take up a hobby. Life can't be all about work. Pick a hobby where you work towards something.

  • Make a phone call, write a letter, or send an email to a friend or family member.

  • Go after a dream.

This list could go on, but hopefully I was able to get you started. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't, because you can.

We can't control what happens to us or around us but we can control how we respond to it and what we do with it. Great post.
